People buying puja items on the eve of Chhath Puja in Guwahati on Sunday. Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Sun God and is considered to be one of the most rigourous forms of worship. Celebrated over a period of four days, the rituals include taking a dip in the river, fasting, abstaining from drinking water and standing in water to offer arghya to the rising and setting sun. Lotha tribe dancers of Nagaland performing during the fifth day of the week-long Hornbill Festival, 2012 at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama in Kohima on Wednesday. Lothas are renowned for their colourful dance and folk songs. The male members of the Lotha tribe wear shawls indicating their social status. The prestigious social shawl for women is called Opvuram and for men it is called Longpensu. Tokhu Emong and Pikhuchak are the main festivals of the Lotha tribe which are celebrated with pomp and splendour. (Sentinel)
